this book was not for me. it moved too fast, the plot was lacking, the characters were two dimensional and flat, and the tense usage is inconsistent. there were sentences where it stared in past, then switches to present tense and it was distracting. the main character is introduced to a magical world and her own royalty before we even get to know her, and the reaction was unrealistic, even for fantasy. I'm a large fantasy fan, and I couldn't finish the book. would not recommend.Product details

Thank you Jamie for an outstanding start to my next series of MUST READ books!!! If you have not picked up you copy I strongly recommend that you do.
I loved this book. I can't wait to start the next book. It's like Your there with them. Keep the books coming.
I just love it.I'm not really into fantasy but loved it.I think perteens and teens would also enjoy it very much. Can't wait to start the second book.
I purchased Makagromme on sale for only ¢.99. I enjoyed the intrique of magic, and was anxious to see how this read ended. While there are minor editing errors, I threw this one on audio halfway, multitasking. I am looking forward to continue into book 2, as I am left wondering!
When I started this book, my expectations weren't super high. I was trying to support a new indie author, and let's be honest, we've all read more than one book by an indie author that sucked (no offense to anyone personally). I started to read it and was blown away. I was completely captivated by page 2! Page 2!! That doesn't usually happen with me. This was a fairly easy read, it was smooth sailing and didn't cause me to step back and go "what did I just read??". As I went on the journey with a new "grommette", I was able to relate to the character and what she was feeling. I laughed at her thoughts and her interaction with the other characters. I could feel the love that she shared with her best friend and cousin. I loved the sexual tension between her and Gio, and the fact that she's not just jumping into a relationship and is being realistic about the possibilities that she may not get her HEA. I wish there had been much, much more story, I really would like to know how it ends! I know there has to be a twist coming and can't wait to see what it is. I know she's hard at work on Book 2, and I can't wait!
I stumbled across this book on and, despite the few bad reviews, decided to give it a chance. I should have listened to the bad reviews.
The premise is there, I'll give the book that much. There's a really good story to be told here, but it's buried beneath so much writing inability that I can't get past it. I would urge the author to go back and buy a few writing reference books, particularly on self-editing, strengthening the first five pages (the exercises therein can then be used to strengthen the rest of the manuscript), character building, and the technical side of writing. There's a good premise here; it just needs what it should have gotten from the beginning, which is the heavy-duty construction repair that happens in the editing process.
The tenses were inconsistent, which is painful to read and often threw me out of the book. The characters were flat and uniform, and there wasn't a single one I grew to care about. The beginning was terrible; the main character was written to be this self-absorbed jerk who goes on and on about having this house everyone admires, and it's paid off, and then gets upset because she can't afford to fix a broken window. They're cheap! There was no research on even mundane details like this, and research can make or break you.
Her reaction to the whole, "Hum-drum girl finds out she's the specialist person of all, and royalty!" was, um, let's just go with "unrealistic." It almost read like fanfic, but all that needs is a little more character development.
I'm struggling to find something constructive to say, but I honestly just didn't enjoy this book. I urge the author, who clearly has a passion for writing, to learn how to write. There are plenty of solid, affordable reference books on the subject. I have a huge collection of them myself, and am happy to share which titles helped me the most. Hire an editor, period. There are some very constructive and affordable ones out there; I know several, and most of them would be happy for a referral. There is no excuse for avoiding having a professional go over your work, if you're serious about publishing. None, whatsoever. I say this because it is only plain this piece did not have an editor. The typos, tense inconsistencies, awkward sentences, etc. made that very clear. Serious writers get editors.
If you can do these things, I would be more than happy to re-review a 2nd edition of Makagromme. Until then, I think I'm asking for a refund.
EDIT Apparently the author believes I read the entire book and then requested a refund. There is a lot of that kind of fraud going on with books, so I can understand the frustration. Let me be clear I read until it was clear the quality of the book was not going to improve. I skipped ahead to a different place in the book, and found the quality had not changed. I skipped ahead again, and then skipped to the end. It was clear the entire book was just not edited, nor did the author do any of the things I mentioned above. That's when I requested the refund. Even 99 cents is too much of a reward for skipping necessary steps in the writing and editing process.
